John Murphy served seventeen years in the London Metropolitan Police finishing up as a Detective Sergeant. During that time he worked in many regions of London including the West End and completed attachments to various Scotland Yard departments and a number of high profile investigations.
John decided on a very sudden change of career in 1995 when he investigated the theft of and successfully recovered, some joke books belonging to the renowned British comedian Bob Monkhouse.
John spent two years working on the UK comedy circuit and began writing for other performers. He also worked with the "Roscoe" news agency sources stories for national newspapers.
His break into television came with "The Love Detectives" a light entertainment dating show for the BBC presented by Vanessa Feltz. Since then he has been the writer on many such shows including Perfect Match, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, The Big 40, The Dinner Party, Soap/Sports Addicts, Coulter and Company and Daniel O'Donnell. He also wrote the script for the opening ceremony of the 2003 Special Olympic Games in Dublin presented by Patrick Keilty.
In drama John has received a full script commission from Mal Young, head of drama series at the BBC for "The Happy Bag" an original story. He was commissioned to compose a blueprint of "teenspeak" for RTE's new pre watershed teen soap and was further commissioned as one of the first three storyline writers for the initial seventeen episodes. He also wrote two episodes of "Baldi" for BBC Radio Northern Ireland transmitted on St.Patricks day 2005. He is also working on his first novel "Not Much Cop" having signed his first publishing deal and a new comedy series "The script".
